Altenew’s Winter Village

Hello friends! Altenew’s Winter Village is a gorgeous and sweet die set. I have used it to create two Christmas cards; a daytime and a nighttime version. Along with another new die set, Berry Branch, together they create a wintry scene within a scene!

Winter Village is a die set with landscape elements that can be used to create a sweet scene. Although called Winter Village, this set is suitable for cards for any season. I have created two scenes; nighttime and daytime.

  • For the nighttime card, a 4 1/4” by 5 1/2” panel of Moon Rock Cardstock and, for the other card, Volcano Lake Cardstock were spattered with opaque white watercolour and adhered to A2 sized card bases. Turquoise glitter tape was added to the left-hand side of the daytime card.

  • The village scene for both cards was created as an ornament; the elements for one cut from Evening Gray, Arctic Mountain, Volcano Lake, white, yellow and silver glitter cardstock. Snowy details were added with Nuvo Stone Drops Chalk White.

  • For the daytime version, a combination of Lagoon, Volcano, dark green and white were used.

  • The scenes were assembled on a circle die cut and mounted on foam.

  • Like the backgrounds, the village ornaments were spattered with opaque white watercolour.

  • The sentiment used for both cards is from the Timeless Sentiments 3 die set. For the nighttime card, it was die cut from both silver glitter and Arctic Mountain card stock. The dark blue sentiment was offset on the silver one and adhered to the top of the card. The turquoise glitter tape used for the border of the daytime card was laid down in two strips on white card stock and then die cut with the “BELIEVE” die. It was adhered to the bottom right of the card base.

  • Berry Branch Layering Die Set was cut from Arctic Mountain and Moon Rock for one card and Lagoon and Volcano got the other. Vineyard Berry Cardstock was used for the berry layer. Both branches were spattered and snowy drifts and silver glitter discs were added to the nighttime branch. White foam was cut using the berry layer die and the branches stacked.

  • The foam backed Village ornaments were adhered to the card front with the branches draping partially over them.

  • For the nighttime card, little stars were cut from silver glitter cardstock, and adhered to the sky on the ornament. Dark blue stars were mounted to the card base, drifting out from the stars placed on the ornament.

  • Tranquility Enamel Dots were used to embellish the daytime card.
