Hello everyone! Today’s card features Spellbinders’ new Essential Diamonds twelve piece, nesting die set. This is a great ‘basic’ to add to your collection … one that will be used for any occasion, at any time of the year! In keeping with the 'Christmas in July' theme, this shadow box card pairs Essential Diamonds with a set released last year; Silent Night Make A Scene. The shadow box card is created with two pieces of low profile black foam so the card is mail friendly. If you would like to try this and have thicker foam, run it through a die cutting machine to decrease the thickness.
A panel of Bristol Smooth card stock was ink blended with Distress Oxide inks Black Soot, Chipped Sapphire, Faded Jeans and Wilted Violet and spattered with white gouache paint that was watered down slightly. The panel and two pieces of black sheet foam were die cut with one of the Essential Diamonds dies. Silver glitter card stock was cut with the next smallest diamond die. Both pieces of foam and the glitter paper were slightly oversized and trimmed down during the assembly. The ink blended panel was trimmed down to 4 1/8” by 5 3/8”. It was centred, not adhered, on an A2 sized card base. The diamond opening was used to position and adhere the diamond die cut to the card base.
All of elements for the scene are included with the Silent Night Make A Scene set. The Santa was cut from black card stock. Everything else was cut from Bristol Smooth card stock. Two narrow panels were cut with the hillside dies and the edges lightly brushed with Faded Jeans. The houses were inked with Wilted Violet, Faded Jeans, Peacock Feathers and Cracked Pistachio. All were toned down lightly with Black Soot. Yellow card stock was adhered to the back of the windows.
To assemble the card, the diamond opening on the silver glitter card stock was centred on the underside of the opening on the ink blended panel and adhered. The excess glitter paper around the ink blended panel was trimmed off. This panel was then adhered to one of the black foam sheets aligning the diamond openings. It was adhered and also trimmed down. One of the hillsides was adhered to the underside of the foam followed by the second piece of foam. The second hillside was adhered to the diamond on the card base and the foam back panel attached. The Santa was adhered across the top of the panel. The houses were positioned on the the hillsides and finished off with trees inked with Cracked Pistachio. The card was embellished with silver confetti topped up with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew. The sentiment, also from the same die set, was cut from the silver glitter card stock.
