Creating Sun Glints on a ‘Water-Scape’ using Stencils featuring Picket Fence Studio’s Graceful Koi

Hello everyone! I have another card from Picket Fence Studio’s April release, Graceful Koi. This set is so beautiful with three detailed koi and coordinating solid stamps. The solid images could be used to add colour to the koi or, as I have done, to create watery shadows. In today’s card, these beauties are set in a ‘water-scape’ background complimented with reflections of light dancing on the water … and the pretty effects? Created with stencils!

Beginning with a panel measuring 4” by 5 1/4” of Bristol Smooth card stock, Simon Says Stamp’s Pawsitively Saturated inks, Surf and Limelicious, were applied in diagonal bands with a Life Changing Blender Brush. The same colours were applied again using Slimline Details of a Wing Stencil. The solid images of the koi were were stamped with Simon Says Stamp’s Smoke dye ink. Surf and Ocean were used to stencil ‘ripples‘ around fish using Layers of Clouds Stencil. The panel was then spattered with watered down white Gouache using a fan brush.

The detail koi images were stamped with Picket Fence’s Intense Black ink on Neenah Classic Crest 110lb card stock. They were Copic coloured with YR09, 04 and 02. Both the images and Picket Fence’s black foam were cut with the coordinating dies. The fish were stacked.

The sentiment was stamped twice with Picket Fence’s Intense Black ink and clear embossed. The panel was matted on black card stock measuring 4 1/8” by 5 3/8”and then on to an A2 sized card base. The fish were adhered to the panel offset on the shadows. Sequins from Sequin Mix Plus - On A Cloudy Day were used to highlight the sentiment and add further detail to the watery scene. The sequins were finished off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
