Flower Shaping with Spellbinder’s The Birds and Bees Garden Collection

Hello, fellow paper crafters! I have a sweet card featuring Black Eyed Susan and Pom Pom Dahlia and Ladybugs (I didn't use the cute ladybugs for this card!) from Spellbinder's The Birds and Bees Garden Collection. These beautiful flowers are easily shaped and, together, create a gorgeous, dimensional card.

  • The flowers were die cut from coloured card stock. Touches of Distress Oxide inks were added to the petal and leaf edges to create a natural look. Each die is etched with the number of die cuts required.

  • The die cuts were shaped with Susan's Garden Ultimate Tool Kit. I used the foam molding mat, the regular tweezers and the medium and small ball tools.

  • Both the dahlia and black eyed Susan were shaped similarly. For the dahlia, I began with the medium ball tool on the molding mat applying it in a circular motion around the edges of the petals. For both flowers, the tweezers were used to shape the petals by grasping the centre of the petals with the tweezer nose and folding the edges on both sides up. The layers were depressed in the centre with the medium ball tool and adhered offsetting the petals from one layer to the next.

  • The black centre die cut for the dahlia was twisted around the nose of the tweezers and adhered to the flower. For the other flower, the little florets were depressed in the centre with the small ball tool and several mounded in the centre.

  • The medium ball tool was applied in a circular motions around the edges of the leaves. Using the tweezers, the base of the leaves were pinched upward.

  • A gold glitter, die cut oval was adhered to a black, A2 sized card base. This nesting die set is not available ... so I learned! But Spellbinders has a few options. I have linked one that I really like in the SUPPLY list.

  • The flowers were adhered following the left side of the oval and the leaves tucked in afterwards.

  • The sentiment from Outlined Sentiments was cut from black card stock and adhered to vellum shadow die cuts.

  • The card was finished off with Peach Opalescent Sequins topped off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
