Hello again! This is definitely my last post before Christmas but I just had to share the adorable Made by Elves decoupage set by Craft Consortium included in Simon's December card kit. This set is sold separately from the card kit and includes 2 each of the 5 designs that I am sharing with you. Other sets are available including Polar Playtime, In The Forest, Sandy Paws, Bluebells and Buttercups, It's Snome Time, Cottage Garden and The Gift of Giving. These layering sets are so easy to assemble and perfect for framing or card making. I am definitely ordering more to create gifts ... economical, easy and fun! I have linked all the sets for you to check out if you have some 'downtime' during the holidays! There is also a link to Simon Says Stamp's Card Kit of the Month. If you have never looked at these monthly kits, you must! Each one is beautifully curated, often introduces new products and offer tremendous value for your money.
The MADE BY ELVES panels come with a base illustrating the complete scene. Each of the layers are clearly marked making it very easy to construct. No fussy cutting! Everything is perforated! For card making, I would use the thin foam adhesive squares because of the number of layers. But for a shadow frame, the sky is the limit … or rather the thickness of the frame!
I am using clear silicone adhesive in a tube from the hardware store to attach one layer upon another. A few generous dollops are applied to the under side of each layer and it is simply aligned to the one it is going to be adhered to. I don’t provide any drying time. The silicone adhesive is thick and will hold its height. The layer with the adhesive is only slightly pressed down to create contact with the layer underneath it. It will take a few hours to dry.
To finish up, the layered scenes, not the background, are coated with Nuvo Crystal Glaze giving them a glass-like appearance. The ornaments in the background are embellished with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew. Stone Drops Chalk White are applied to the pom poms on the hats, the snow balls and on the falling snow on a couple of the backgrounds. Stone Drops have a textured matte appearance and are perfect for this application. When dry, they are mounted on panels black and then white card stock. I used dies from an older nesting die set by Hero Arts called Infinity Square. The squares have rounded corners that match the Made by Elves panels.
The panels were framed in shadow boxes. I could not find the right size to mount all five scenes together but this was a last minute project. I only received my card kit yesterday and couldn’t leave these adorable decoupage sets alone (even though I for sure had other things to do! I definitely stayed up longer than usual to get caught up!)
Although too late to give as a gift this year, I just got a head start for next year! These layered scenes with impressive dimension look awesome in the shadow boxes!
