Jewel-like Dragonflies With Graciellie Design’s Hope & Strength

Updated: Jan 12

Happy summer, everyone! We have experienced a few rainy days in my neck of the woods ... perfect if you are a gardener like me! ... but now it is full on summer with hot, sunny days! I periodically make my way to one of the two lakes that 'sandwich' my little city of Penticton accompanied by my rambunctious, adolescent coonhound! She absolutely loves the water and I enjoy the cool breeze off the lake! Win-win!!!

I am seeing lots of dragonflies of late and was inspired to make another card with Graciellie Design: Hope & Strength. I adore this digital stamp set .... which is why I have made a few cards with it! Today's card features a small grouping of dragonflies on a water colour background that I hope reflects a dusky summer's evening.

The Background

A watercolour background was created by layering on colours using Mijello Mission Gold. The spotlight areas, using Gansai Tambi's Starry Colors, highlight each dragonfly. Please refer to the video tutorial for details. When the panel was completely dry, Bleed Proof White was used to create a fine spatter. The background was finished up stencilling Glitz Glitter Gel with Simon Says Stamp's Snow stencil.

The Elements

The dragonflies and sentiment were printed on Neenah Solar White 80lb card stock. The dragonfly wings were coloured with copic markers V20, BV06, B39 and B93. The body was coloured with W6. The sentiment panel was ink blended with Scattered Straw and Walnut Stain and embossed with WOW! Clear Sparkle.

Putting It All Together

Both the background and sentiment were mounted on black sheet foam. The background panel was adhered to black card stock and attached to an A2 sized card base. After the sentiment was in place, the dragonflies were placed slightly above the spotlight areas on the watercolour panel attached with small black foam squares.
