Layered Ink Blending featuring Simon Says Stamp's Snowflake Season

Updated: Jan 12

Hello everyone! How is mail delivery in your neck of the woods? Where I live, it is painfully slow and if we are talking international mail .... well I have no words to describe it! The Covid Era strikes at so many aspects of our lives! Nevertheless, I was very happy to finally see the January card kit in my mailbox earlier this week. If you have never checked out Simon's monthly kits, do so! Not only are they good value for your money, each kit is filled with very high quality and inspiring products. The kits sell out very quickly if you are not a subscriber so it is good to know that the featured stamp set and other products are sold separately. On to the cards ....

I have three cards with Simon Says Stamp's Snowflake Season featuring a layered ink blending technique using Simon's new Slimline Masks. All of the cards are created in exactly the same way with variations in colours and stamps used from this large stamp set making each one unique.

The Background

Panels of Bristol Smooth card stock were inked with Distress Oxide inks:

White Milled Lavender, Spun Sugar, Shaded Lilac

Silver Peacock Feathers, Hickory Smoke, Pumice Stone

Gold Shaded Lilac, Faded Jeans, Seedless Preserves

Masks from Simon Says Stamp's Slimline Masks were used to create a frame to highlight the snowflakes. The darkest ink (in bold above) from each combination was applied. The masks were also used to protect this area when spatter was applied with a small paintbrush.

White Winsor and Newton White Gouache (slightly watered down)

Silver Distress Stain Brushed Pewter

Gold Distress Stain Tarnished Brass

The snowflakes were stamped with Versamark ink and embossed:

White Simon Says Stamp Fine Detail White

Silver Wow! Metallic Silver

Gold Ink on 3 Gold Rush

White Snowflake Card

The panel was trimmed to 3 3/4" by 8 3/4" and mounted on white sheet foam before being attached to white glitter paper and Simon Says Stamp's Indigo card stock with a small profile reveal for each layer. The card base, made from Neenah Classic Crest 110lb card stock, measured 4' by 9". The sentiment was stamped on Simon's Indigo card stock with Versamark ink and embossed with white embossing powder and die cut with one of the circle dies from Hero Arts' Infinity Circles. The sentiment was stacked on foam. To complete the card, rose coloured confetti topped with Nuvo Crystal Drops was scattered around the snowflakes.

Silver Snowflake Card

The panel was trimmed to 3 3/4" by 8 3/4" and mounted on Tonic Studio's Silver Chequer paper and Simon Says Stamp's Peacock Teal card stock with a small profile reveal for each layer. The card base, made from Neenah Classic Crest 110lb card stock, measured 4' by 9". The die cut sentiment, Simon's Miss You, was cut from both the specialty paper and foam. Silver confetti topped with Nuvo Crystal Drops was scattered around the snowflakes.

Gold Snowflake Card

The panel was cut with the second smallest die in Pinkfresh Studio's Slimline Stitched Rectangles and mounted on white sheet foam. It was layered on Tonic Studio's Cinnamon Silk specialty paper and Simon's Soft Navy card stock before being adhered to a 4" by 9" card base. Simon's Eliza snowflake was die cut from both matte gold card stock and black foam and stacked. The sentiment was stamped with Black Versafine ink and clear embossed on a small panel of Cinnamon Silk paper and layered on Indigo cardstock. The card was finished off with gold confetti and topped off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
