Mica Colour Wash Background for Spellbinders’ Butterfly Burst

Hello, everyone! I find myself yearning for Spring weather and willing the white landscape to give way to the tender colours of a new season. The geese have returned … a signal that soon other migratory birds and insects will be back … including the butterflies! I love Spellbinders’ Butterfly Burst die set. It is so sweet and whimsical … perfect for a light and airy water coloured background. It suits my mood perfectly! SPRING, I welcome you with an open heart!

Panels of Canson XL watercolour paper were cut to 4” by 5 1/4”. The colour wash was created with Ioule paints. These watercolours have mica and the panels have a pretty shimmer when the light strikes them. One background was created with a soft blue and lavender and the other with the addition of green. The panels were spattered in the same paint colours used for the colour wash and water colour stains dropped in at the top of the brush

An A sized card base was matted in black card stock and the card front attached to it. There are three dies to create the paintbrush. The handle was cut from black card stock, the ferrule from matte gold and the brushes from fine gold glitter paper. The handle was mounted on a foam die cut. The handle was trimmed about two thirds of the way down at an angle and adhered to the panel.

The larger butterflies have a base and a detail die and were cut from gold glitter card stock. The detail one was scored and adhesive applied to the fold line to attach to the base die cut. The small solid butterflies were scored and adhered directly to the card front. The sentiment, from Just A Tweet , was adhered to the largest tag from the Swallowtail Tags die set. The tag was mounted on a foam die cut. black Nuvo Drops complete these cards.
