Organizing Solutions With Spellbinders’ Cardstock

Writer: Bonnie CraneBonnie Crane

One of my great joys next to making cards is organizing my stash! I wanted a system that would allow me to select my Colorwheel Cardstock colours for a project with ease. Using the handy reference tool created with Color Swatch Wheel die set makes the process of creating a pallete so easy. The card stock is clearly identified using the Color Swatch Petal so I can access it quickly. I love organizing!!!

Over the years, I have tried many different systems to organize paper. I finally settled on nylon mesh storage bags. The bags that I purchase have colour banding that works perfectly for coordinating the coloured cardstock. However, I found myself still pulling out the bags for a particular colour palette to look inside to get the exact tone that I wanted.

When Spellbinders introduced the Colorwheel Cardstock Collection, they also released two die sets for creating organizational aids. The first thing I did after receiving the cardstock was to cut swatches with the Color Swatch Wheel and Color Swatch Petal.

Each colour of cardstock was cut using the single die from the Color Swatch Wheel die set.

I knew that I would be using this reference tool frequently so I chose to cut the wheel from black cardstock. When the swatches are adhered to the wheel, there is space at the bottom to stamp the name of the cardstock colour, but because I have a black wheel, the names were stamped directly onto the colour swatches using the Color Swatch Names Stamp Set.

And I was right! Whenever I start a new project that incorporates coloured cardstock, the first thing I do is reach for the swatches to help me with my colour selection. I reference these swatches all of the time!

Each colour of cardstock was then cut with the large petal die included in the Color Swatch Petal die set. Again, I chose black to cut the tag because I knew that the likelihood of it staying pristine if it was out of white card stock was limited! The mesh bags that I use have a toggle that opens up on the pull. This allowed me to just simply open it up, thread the string through the swatch, and then reattach the string to the toggle.

My cardstock selection is kept in a cube storage system that has slots. The mesh bags sit upright, and when I want to select my color, all I have to do is refer to the swatch petal hanging from the zipper pull on the bag. Out of the many organizational systems that I have used for paper storage, this works the best for me. And I love that I am able to quickly identify the cardstock that I want to use for my projects using a combination of the Color Swatch Wheel and Color Swatch Petal swatching stems.
