Hello everyone! I have a set of mini slimline cards featuring a couple of fabulous new die sets by Spellbinders; Colour Block Mini Drops and Colour Block Mini Triangles. These 'two piece' die sets with one solid and the other die producing a series of frames offer endless possibilities! Today's cards demonstrate how these dies can be used in conjunction with alcohol inks …. dramatic colour and amazing texture!
Two alcohol ink panels were created on 5" by 7" Yupo Translucent paper. Ranger's inks were used; Lettuce, Pesto and Ginger on one panel and Patina, Clover and Tranquil on the other. Isopropyl Alcohol (rubbing alcohol) was used to soften the transitions between the colours. The alcohol was placed in a squeeze bottle with a very small nozzle to maintain some control over how much liquid was being applied to the panel. The alcohol, with the help of blowing into a straw, was used to move the ink.
The panels were cut into strips slightly wider than the height of the dies. The blue strips were cut with the solid mini drop die. For the other strips, both the solid and frame die were used. Most of the triangles cut were solid but a few frame triangles were cut out from the alcohol ink strips and a fine gold glitter paper. Using the solid dies, black sheet foam was cut. The alcohol ink drops and triangles were mounted on the foam die cuts. The frame triangle die cuts were assembled on foam die cuts alternating between the alcohol ink and glitter frame triangles.
The card bases measure 3 1/4" by 6 1/4". Black card stock was used to cover two of the card bases edge to edge. The other three were matted with panels measuring 2 3/4" by 5 3/4". The alcohol ink accents were arranged and adhered.
Spellbinders' Layered Mix and Match Sentiments were die cut from a combination of black card stock and fine gold glitter paper for either the script word or the shadow die cut. The shadow was mounted on foam. On one card, just the script word was used and it was foam mounted. The cards with the mini drops were embellished with blue confetti and the rest of the collection with gold. The confetti was finished off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
