SHAKE IT UP Card 2 ... with Simon Says Stamp February Card Kit

Updated: Jan 12, 2024

Welcome! I know how busy our lives can be and am grateful you found some time to stop by! This card is the second of three shakers that I am making with Simon Says Stamp's Monthly Card Kit featuring the ‘Window Frames’ stamp set. For today's card, I will be using the balloon frame stamps to create a fun birthday card.

I started with a 4 1/4" by 5 ½" Bristol Smooth cardstock to create an ink blended background. I used Rusty Hinge, Carved Pumpkin, Worn Lipstick and Spun Sugar Distress Oxide inks. Because these inks need a bit of drying time, I protect the surface from my fingers by laying down a small piece of paper over already inked areas as I build up the ink blend. How to Avoid Fingerprints 101 ... LOL!

The balloon frame is different from the other two frame stamps in this set. It is two separate stamps (lots of flexibility here for designs!), For this card, I begin by die cutting the windows using the Trio Window Wafer Die. The panel is placed in the Misti and I line up the stamps around the windows. I have to open and close the Misti door several times checking and adjusting the stamps to get everything positioned properly. I stamp the images with Versamark ink. I also stamp the single balloon stamp three times around the perimeter of the card. All of these images are embossed with gold embossing powder twice. The dangling string is on the single balloons is drawn with the Emboss It Pen and embossed once. I emboss the sentiment 'Happy Birthday' three times on the top window cut out.

I do some very simple copic colouring starting at the outside edge of the balloons with my darkest colour and working towards the centre with the light marker. I use the colourless blender in the centre to create a highlight. For the balloons in the pink area of the background, I use RV13 and 17. The rest of the balloons are coloured with YR09 and 16. I adhere acetate to cover the window openings.

The Trio Window Wafer Die is used to cut two pieces of black sheet foam that are slightly smaller than the panel. I adhere one to the balloon panel and the second one to a piece of white cardstock the same size as the foam. I glue the window cut outs inside the window die cuts on the white card stock base making sure they coordinate with the blended ink background on the balloon panel. The shaker material is placed in the windows on the base and the balloon panel is adhered to it. Drying time needed! I 'paint' Nuvo Glitter Drops and apply Glossy Accents to each balloon. To wrap up this card, I use Nuvo Crystal Drops here and there around the design.
