Shaker Bookmarks featuring Graciellie Design Images and 'The Fuse'

Updated: Jan 12

Hello everyone! Happy 4th of July to my American friends! Being a retired teacher/principal, I have this affinity with books! I am particularly fond of children's literature and am in the process of 'rereading' the Harry Potter series. I have a few friends who have this same connection to reading and are taking advantage of the 'lock down' and digging into some great novels. What a perfect opportunity to send a long distance hello in the form of a bookmark!

I have used several digital images from Graciellie Design, Beautiful Destinations, Book Lovers, and Words of Hope, in three shaker bookmarks using the Fuse tool by We R Memories.

The Backgrounds

I began by ink smooshing a sheet of Neenah Solar White 110lb card stock with Distress Oxide inks Victorian Velvet, Worn Lipstick and the new Speckled Egg. I apply one ink at a time to evenly distribute the colour. The card stock was cut down into three small panels, 6 ½' by 2 ½". Using three different Tim Holtz stencils, one for each panel, I applied Versamark Ink. Two panels were embossed with gold and the third with white.

The gold embossed panels were mounted on matte gold and the white embossed panel on Neenah Solar White 110lb card stock. Because the gold paper has a white backing, another gold panel was adhered to the back. These panels were 6 3/4" by 2 3/4".

The Elements

The images were copic coloured as follows:

Orchid - BV00, 08, 13

Leaves - BG 90, 93, 96

Teacup- RV91, 93, 95

Pages - C00, 02,05

Jar - BG000, 01

Books - The groupings listed above & Y28, 29, 32

The sentiments were attached to coloured card stock and adhered to the panel. The fussy cut images were mounted to 'sit' on the sentiment panel.

The Pocket

The Fuse was heated up for about 15 to 20 minutes. The panels were slid into a sheet protector, one at a time, and using a steel ruler to guide the fuse, the sides were sealed. The excess plastic was trimmed leaving about an 1 ½" at the top of the unsealed edge of the pocket. The sequin/micro bead mix was poured into each shaker and sealed at the edge of the panel. The top and two diagonal lines on the 1 ½" plastic overhang were also sealed. With the corners trimmed, a tag is left to punch a hole in. The bookmarks were finished off with gold ribbon on two of the shakers and a purple and white baker's twine tassel on the other.
