Simon Says Stamp’s DieCember BLOG PARTY featuring Hanging Leaf Ring

Hello friend! There are many reasons to love December. The most obvious reason is Christmas, but there are a few other things that happen only during this month … Christmas preparations, special events and Simon Says Stamp’s DieCember! As the name suggests, the focus is mostly on dies. And just in case you didn’t notice, I am a major fan of die cutting delights. Please join us as we celebrate with an EPIC BLOG PARTY! You can join in at SIMONSAYSSTAMPBLOG.com. Be sure to check out the full RELEASE!

I have created three cards using a really beautiful new die set called Hanging Leaf Ring. The first two cards have some similarities, but one is a clear card and the other a flat shaker. Check out the VIDEO TUTORIAL for all the details on these two cards. The third card has a very different look with its nighttime, wintry scene.

  • For the pair of cards above, the gold frame was created with the largest and consecutive die from the Nested Domed Arches. One die was centred in the other, held in place with low tack tape and used to cut Matte Gold Cardstock .

  • The sentiments for both cards were created with CZ Design PEACE.

  • TIPTombow Adhesive will be used frequently for both of these cards, but in particular, for the clear card. When using this adhesive, it will be applied and left to dry completely. The adhesive will become opaque indicating it is in its tacky state. The benefit of this adhesive on acetate is huge! It prevents the possibility of unsightly smudges that are almost impossible to completely remove from acetate. It is also repositionable providing lots of flexibility when positioning elements. .

Flat Shaker

  • The largest die from Nested Domed Arches was used to cut clear acetate and soft pink glitter card stock.

  • To create the shaped card base, a full panel of white card stock was folded in half. The largest die was positioned so that the cutting edge at the top of the arch was just off the folded edge of the cardstock. After going through the die cutter, the result is a top folding card base. The top of the arch will be cut off so a pink glitter cardstock die cut was adhered to the card base.

  • Tombow Adhesive was applied to the gold arch and then adhered to the acetate one. Because the window will be adhered to glitter paper, regular adhesive was applied along the edges leaving the top of the arch open. It was left to dry completely.

  • Flat, sparkly white discs were added to the flat shaker and the opening sealed, again with the liquid adhesive.

  • Tombow Adhesive was applied to the ring from Hanging Leaf Ring and gold embroidery thread tied to the ornament hanger.

  • The centres of the pink and cream flowers were embellished with Gilt Trip Prills. The Gold Glitter Cardstock branches and the flowers were adhered to the ring.

  • The sentiment, CZ Design PEACE, was cut from Gold Glitter Cardstock and black foam. It was stacked and mounted with Tombow below the ring.

  • The card was embellished with Satin Gold Sequins.

Clear Card

  • The gold arch frame was adhered to a Clear Acetate Card Base.

  • The PEACE sentiment was positioned in the centre bottom of the card front.

  • Embroidery thread was looped through the ring before adhering it above the sentiment. The top of the arch, with its repositionable adhesive, was lifted up, and the embroidery thread placed underneath it. The thread was trimmed.

  • The centres of the red flowers were embellished with Gilt Trip Prills. The Gold Glitter Cardstock branches and the flowers were adhered to the ring. Tombow adhesive was used for the branches and glue dots for the flowers.

  • The card was embellished around the floral design with gold confetti finished off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.

Night Time, Wintry Scene

  • The nighttime scene for this card was created with Printmaking Pines Stamp & Die Set and Layered Hills.

  • The white hillside, rising sun and indigo sky were die cut with the Layered Hills die set. This background is one layer and was created by overlapping the card stock and die cutting them where two pieces meet. The sun was die cut from the indigo skyline and also yellow cardstock. The yellow sun was inlaid. The dark grey hillside in the foreground was cut from dark grey cardstock and popped up with foam squares.

  • The panel was spattered using a fan brush and white opaque watercolour paint. It was cut with one of the dies from Stitched Rectangles  and adhered to an A2 sized card base.

  • The ring from Hanging Leaf Ring was cut from Matt Silver cardstock and black sheet foam. Because the ring is fine, Tombow adhesive was applied to the back of it and left to dry to create some ease when stacking it on the foam die cut. The ring was then positioned over at the centre portion of the landscape.

  • The top of the ring was decorated with silver glitter branches and white flowers with silver glitter centers. Aqua glittery discs we’re added in to round out the floral design.

  • The trees from Printmaking Pines Stamp & Die Set were stamped with Pawsitively Saturated Inks Orchid, Lilac and Amethyst. They were cut with the coordinating dies a ndadhered to the card front.

  • The script sentiment from Joy Shadow was used to cut silver glitter cardstock and black sheet foam. The sentiment was stacked and appeared to the centre of the ring.
