Simple Highlighting with Gouache featuring Pinkfresh Studio's You Are Amazing

Updated: Jan 12

Hello everyone! Two blog posts in one weekend! A record for me these days! As my moving date gets closer, I find myself with a little more time on my hands! I am fully packed now with just the bare essentials left ... even in the craft room. I have to resist the temptation to tear open boxes when I have an idea for a project but know the supplies needed are packed. I am learning to 'rethink' and use what I have on hand ... which isn't a lot!

What I do have is a stack of stamp and die sets that I ordered quite some time ago. They made their way to me about the time things got hectic with the sale of my home. I am so happy to finally start digging into this little stash! Today's cards feature a highlighting technique that I have used before. If you are interested, you can check out this other post; Highlighting with Gouache on an Ink Smooshed Background .

I began these cards with ink blended backgrounds using distress oxide inks:

Slimline Squeezed Lemonade, Spiced Marmelade, Twished Citron

A2 Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet, Blueprint Sketch

The ink was applied randomly to Bristol Smooth card stock. With each layer of ink, the colours were overlapped to achieve a smooth blend. The panels were left to completely dry.

Slimline

The panel was stamped with a slightly deeper orange, Carved Pumpkin, and embossed with Simon Says Stamp's Fine Detail Clear embossing powder. The panel and sheet foam were cut with 2nd largest die in Pinkfresh Studio's Slim Ornate Banner die set. Winsor Newton's white gouache was water down slightly and the leaves were painted spatter applied with a small paint brush. This panel was adhered to the foam. The largest die in this set was used to cut Neenah Classic Crest 110lb card stock. The foam backed panel was mounted on the white layer and adhered to a card base measuring 3 3/4" by 8 3?4". The sentiment was stamped with Carved Pumpkin on Neenah 110lb card stock and clear embossed. The sentiment was cut with Simon Says Stamp's Sentiment Labels and stacked on foam. Two leafy and one floral die cuts from Pinkfresh Studio's Frame Builders Botanical Circle were modified slightly to create a floral spray. the card was finished off with iridescent sequins topped with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.

A2 Card (4 1/4" by 5 1/2")

This card was constructed in the same manner as the slimline except for the die cuts. The stamping, both the leaves and the sentiment, was done with Faded Jeans. The panel was cut with 2nd largest die from Pinkfresh Studio's Diagonal Stitched Circles. The foam backed panel was mounted on the largest die from this set. Five leafy die cuts from Frame Builders Botanical Circle were modified slightly to create the wreath.
