Spellbinders’ BetterPress Plate of the Month for January

Hello friends! Spellbinders’ BetterPress of the Month, Take Flight, is a gorgeous set of two butterflies and three sentiments with coordinating dies. For the darker card, the butterflies were pressed onto a mixed media created background. The butterflies for the lighter card were stencilled using the bonus item that comes with the Deluxe Caboodle Club. Either way, these butterflies are done up quickly and easily.

The registration window for this club will be available January 6 for current Club Members. New registrations are accepted on the 10th of January . Registrations can be completed until January 27th or while supplies last.

I love these big, bold butterflies! They definitely make a statement when used together on a card! But of course, these butterflies would work well on their own to create a ‘Clean & Simple’ card or in combination with other elements like foliage and flowers. This is a very versatile set.

  • The darker card came together very quickly with the exception of the drying time for the mixed media backdrop for the butterflies. Dark blue card stock was embossed with the 3D Embossing Folder of the Month and adhered to an A2 sized, black card base.

  • Distress Oxide Stains Chipped Sapphire and Wilted Vilolet were applied to a BetterPress Porcelain A2 Panel that had been spritzed lightly with water. Sprinkles of Nuvo Shimmer Powder Violet Brocade were added. In areas where the powder did not dissolve, additional spritzes of water were added.

  • The butterfly press plates were inked with the Full Size Black BetterPress Ink Pad and letter pressed using the BetterPress System. To get a solid outlined image of the butterflies, they were pressed two times and then cut with the coordinating dies. Gold Stickles was used accent some of the butterflies’ markings.

  • The sentiment was pressed onto dark blue card stock with Versamark Ink and gold embossed. It was cut with the coordinating die.

  • The butterflies were adhered to the card front with foam squares on the tips of the wings and liquid adhesive under the body. The sentiment was adhered with small foam squares.

  • The background for this card was created using some elements from Large Die of the Month. The detail and outline dies for the terrarium were used to cut dark blue card stock. The outline die alone was used to cut cream card stock and Distress Oxide Inks Faded Jeans and Tumbled Glass were applied around the edges. They were stacked and adhered to an A2 size, cream card base.

  • The butterflies and sentiment were pressed on cream card stock. Using the stencil set included in the Deluxe Caboodle Club as a bonus item, the butterflies were coloured with a combination of Distress Oxide Inks; Abandoned Coral , Picked Raspberry and Kitsch Flamingo. The elements were cut with the coordinating dies.

  • The foliage included in the Large Die of the Month were cut from dark green cardstock and given some highlights with white pigment ink.

  • The butterflies were adhered with foam squares and the foliage and sentiment with liquid adhesive.

  • The card was embellished with light and dark blue confetti topped off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
