Hello everyone! The countdown to Spring is upon me! The gardening magazines and seed catalogues are arriving and filling my head with visions of what’s to come. I love the garden at night … cool, scent-filled, magical. My card today is inspired by the anticipation of sitting in my late evening garden ... and so here we go with Spellbinders’ gorgeous CLEMATIS.
Clematis was die cut from Stonehenge black water colour paper. I bought mine from Amazon. Some of the dies require more than one cutting. The number of die cuts required are indicated right on the die. For each bloom, die cut:
2 sets of petals
3 stamens
1 rolled stamen
The set comes with two sizes of leaves. I thought I had cut way too many but I used them all!
The flower petals and leaves were painted mica water colours by Iuile. These paints are ultra shiny and absolutely gorgeous on the black water colour paper. The painting was simple and not much water was used to increase the saturation of the colour. Two coats were applied with the following colours:
Flower Petals - Jin, Eggplant
Leaves - Lounge Lizard, Tree
The flowers were shaped and assembled. Please see the Video Tutorial. I am using a flower shaping kit by McGill that I purchased SO MANY years ago but Susan, the creator of this die set, has put together a wonderful tool kit, Susan’s Garden Ultimate Tool Kit, available at Spellbinders. I am planning on updating mine!
A panel of the black water colour paper was cut to 8 1/2” by 3 1/2” and colour washed with Jin and Eggplant. When dry, a rough stem outline was painted on to assist with positioning of flowers and leaves. The panel, flowers and leaves were spattered with Distress Stain Tarnished Brass. The panel was mounted on foam and then on a card base measuring 3 3/4" by 8 3/4". The flowers were assembled on the panel before the leaves using the ‘stem’ as a guideline. The sentiment was die cut from both matte gold card stock and foam and stacked. The card was embellished with black Nuvo Crystal Drops.
