Spellbinders’ Yana’s Poppy from the Yana’s Poppies Collection

Updated: Oct 5

Hello friends! Yana’s Poppy by Spellbinders is a gorgeous die set! I adore poppies. Their paper, thin petals, often translucent, give them a light and airy quality that is hard to resist. This die cut image captures the poppy’s beauty and is both large enough to create a focal point on a card as well as being the right size to create an all over design for a background.

  • Yana’s Poppy is a die set that includes two dies; a detail of the outline with individual flower petals and a shadow die.

  • Using the detail die, three poppies were die cut from both Bristol Smooth Cardstock and matte gold from Gold Assortment Treasured Cardstock. I retained the gold outline and the white card stock flower petals. The buds were trimmed off of two of the poppies.

  • The shadow die was used to cut black cardstock.

  • The poppies were coloured with small blending brushes using Fresh Dye Inks. Coral Bliss and Heart Beat were used on two of the poppies and for the yellow poppy, a combination of Citrus Burst and Honey Drizzle were used.

  • To assemble the flowers, the gold outline was adhered to the black shadow die cut. The flower petals are a good size so they are easily inlaid.

  • A 1 inch band of the matte gold cardstock was adhered to the left-hand side of an A2 sized, black card base. A strip of adhesive backed crystals were mounted along the border between the two.

  • The Poppy on the lower right hand corner was it here directly to the card base while the other two were popped up with foam squares.

  • The sentiment from the Small Die of the Month, Colourful Expressions Sentiments, was cut from gold cardstock and black sheet foam. It was stacked.

  • The card was embellished off with gold confetti finished off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.

The construction of the second card, in many respects, is similar to the first one. The shadow die cuts were not used for these poppies. The poppies were die cut from Bristol Smooth Cardstock and the outlines were adhered randomly to the gold card front. The flower petals and the sentiment were coloured gradient using Distress Oxide Spun Sugar.
