Textured Inlays with Gathering Stitches from Spellbinders’ Nichol’s Needlework Collection

Hello friends! Pretty sure you all know Nichol Spohr, card maker extraordinaire! You propably also know that she is a talented stitcher. It is hardly any surprise that she has designed a super sweet Needlework Collection …. but it is faux embroidered for those of us who love stitching but either don’t have the time or the skills for this precise craft. I am starting off with a couple of cards using an inlaid, paper piecing technique with Gathering Stitches which includes the fabulous embroidery hoop. There are also additional sets that complement this one or can be used as ‘stand-alones’: Faux Embroidered Pumpkin, Faux Embroidered Spruce and Faux Embroidered Stockings. Stay tuned for more cards!

  • The embroidery hoop die produces two die cuts. It was cut twice for each card so the frame would be a different colour than the fabric.

  • The rainbow die was used to cut the fabric die cut.

  • The rainbow die was used to cut pink, gold glitter and matte gold card stock for the arches. The gold card stock is from Treasured Cardstock Gold Assortment. Gorgeous! The die was placed over the arches, except the gold glitter ones, to create the dotted texture.

  • The arches were inlaid on the fabric die cut panel alternating between the three colours of card stock. Scotch tape was used to hold the pieces in place.

  • The embroidery hoop die was used to cut foam. The fabric die cut was adhered to it.

  • The bracket was adhered to the back of the frame die cut. The fame was adhered to an A2 sized card base. The foam backed fabric was mounted in the frame.

  • The cards were decorated with the sprigs, stems and flowers included with the die set.

  • The sentiments from Everyday Sentiments were stacked on foam die cuts and adhered to the card bases.
